Diagnosed pollen allergy sufferers, especially during the allergy season, experience mouth itching, swelling, tearing, runny nose, less often hoarseness, coughing or choking within minutes after eating certain fruits and plants. You can read the summary of cross allergy written by Dr. Ilona Kovács, pediatric pulmonologist and allergist at the Liv Duna Medical Center.

The above symptoms are caused by pollens and similar particles between the structure of food. Below is a list of the foods that cause cross-allergies in a given pollen season:

In case of birch pollen allergy:

Common : apples, cherries, carrots, pears, celery, tomatoes

Rare: peach, kiwi, avocado, banana, hazelnut, walnut, almond, chestnut

In case of grass pollen allergy:

Common : tomato, rye, wheat, soy, orange, kiwi

Rare: celery, onion, asparagus

In case of ragweed pollen allergy:

Common : watermelon, cantaloupe, tomato

Rare : apple, banana, zucchini, tomato, cucumber, celery, sunflower, carrot, pepper

In case of black wormwood pollen allergy:

Common : carrot, anise, celery

Rare : cumin, pepper, paprika, tomato, parsley, coriander, dill, chamomile, kiwi, anise, melon, cucumber, mango, onion

The primary way to prevent cross-allergy is for the patient to avoid eating foods that cause symptoms during the allergy season.
