Orthopedics & Traumatology

Orthopedics deals with supportive and locomotive system problems, while traumatology specializes in treating changes following injuries. Orthopedic or traumatological problems often require surgical intervention. The surgeons of Duna Medical Center perform the surgeries using the most modern methods, which involve the smallest possible interventions, thus the recovery time can also be shortened. The following is a non-exhaustive presentation of common surgical procedures.

ARTHROSCOPY

During arthroscopy (wrist, elbow, shoulder, knee, ankle), the inner part of the joint is examined with a tiny camera. As a result, it becomes possible to recognize, diagnose, and treat various changes. Joint arthroscopy can also be used to examine cartilage damage, rupture, blockage, and painful inflammation. The most common causes of these are joint injuries, sports injuries, or joint wear.

KNEE PROSTHESIS SURGERY

Knee prosthesis implantation is most often necessary in cases of age-related knee wear disease, joint inflammatory disease, joint dislocation-caused damage, or accidental origin changes.

  • Partial knee replacement

The sled type prosthesis only replaces the joint surface of the femur and tibia on one side of the knee. It gets its name from the shape of the prosthesis.

  • Total knee replacement

It also replaces the damaged joint surface of the entire femur and tibia.

HIP PROSTHESIS SURGERY

Musculoskeletal diseases arising from hip joint wear or inflammatory disease are very common. In advanced stages, hip prosthesis implantation may become necessary. The goal of the surgery is to reduce pain and restore damaged joint movement.

  • Cemented fixation

The prosthesis is fixed to the bone surface with quickly solidifying "bone cement".

  • Uncemented fixation

In this procedure, the body itself secures the prosthesis, a process which usually takes 4-6 weeks of gentle loading and regular physiotherapy.

The following are also among the surgical interventions carried out in the field of orthopedics and traumatology:

  • Cruciate ligament surgery, anterior or posterior cruciate ligament surgery, lateral ligament reconstruction, revision
  • Shoulder surgeries, shoulder prosthesis
  • Hand, wrist, foot, knee, ankle minor, medium, and major surgeries
  • Metatarsal osteotomies, toe phalanges, bunion surgery, hammer toe surgery
  • Ankle joint stiffening
  • Soft tissue surgeries
  • Joint manipulation under anesthesia
  • Removal of joint or tendon (sheath) ganglions
  • Removal of bone foreign bodies
  • Surgical treatment of musculoskeletal, connective tissue diseases
  • Arthroscopic plastic surgery
